Movies of The Bizarre Vampire Sex Comedies: Disco Vampires
The Vampire Comedy combines two genres one genre is horror the other is of course comedy. We know that The Vampire Comedy is a genre as well but we definitely need to have something else to make a Vampire comedy different from the other Vampire Comedies. Hollywood looks at trends and the trend that was going up in 1978-1980 was Disco. Hollywood looked at Disco and saw that it was something to make money off of and there are a few Disco Comedies and Of course there was "Saturday Night Fever" which brought Disco Music to the world. The Problem is Disco was a fad and like all Fads they come and go.
Love at First Bite (1979)
The bad thing about being an Arm Chair or Gaming Chair or whatever these modern critics sit in these days is that you might say something bad about a movie where an actor or director you respect has directed or acted in the film. I will say George Hamilton is a funny man. I cannot think of him anything but as a comedic actor but the role that broke him out as a comedic actor was Love at First Bite. Love at First Bite was a surprise hit of 1979. "Bite" nearly grossed 50 millions dollars for Hollywood in 1979 and Hamilton would be a Comedic Star afterwards. Hamilton started making and choosing his own scripts and Love at First bite was one of the results. The idea of For "Bite" happened because Hamilton loved to impersonate Bela Lugosi and many people found it funny. Many Critics did not like the casting of a Dark and Handsome man in the role of Dracula. "Bite" was a favorite among women at the time I remember Cosmopolitan Magazine finding the female role of Susan Saint James as a very funny take of the Modern era version of Dracula love interest. The Pre Aid's Epidemic of Free sex and lust at The Discotheques are very foreign to me and a Discotheque is one of the settings used so this looks like a Modern telling of the Original Dracula story . When I was a kid I thought it was funny seeing a Modern decedent of Van Helsing being forced to Fight a new version of Dracula who is just "Misunderstood". Dracula is the one we root for in Love at First Bite and the jokes of a woman getting an orgasm as she is bitten by Dracula flies over the head of today's Millennial. "Bite" is the Funniest of the Hamilton Produced Comedies. I admit Richard Benjamin and Gorge Hamilton Playing Off Of Each other as Vampire and Vampire Slayer are the Funniest parts of the Film. Love at First Bite was such an Impact On Hollywood that it took the "Bite" away from serious Dracula Films.
Nocturna: Granddaughter of Dracula
I have already Stated that Vampire Sex Comedies mostly are a recipe of disaster. I will tell you that
Vanity Projects are another recipe for disaster as well Vanity Projects were the film features someone with mediocre talent that is. Nai Bonet was a Vietnamese Belly-dancer who wrote herself in a film Called Nocturna: Granddaughter of Dracula. Nocturna is bad, the Acting is bad and the plot is bad.In The Film The Character of Nocturna runs a Hotel I guess that was originally Dracula's Castle. The Dracula Family runs on Hard times so Nocturna starts a Disco in the Hotel. I just recently watched the film and there is nudity all over the film. If you like nudity this film is for you but remember this film was made before the VHS Craze of the Eighties so think about those poor Theater workers of the Seventies. Nai Bonet was past her prime by this time the film was made. Bonet lacked the acting and the Charisma of a Bridgette Bardot or even a Sophie Loren at the time. John Carradine who worked for a bottle of Scotch and some Metamucil and Yvonne DeCarlo could not save this horrible film.I recently watched both these films and laughed a lot watching Love at First bite but I just feel bad and sorry for everyone who participated in Nocturna: Granddaughter of The Dead.
