My day as a Magical Girl.
The components that came with the cosplay included the dress, hat, cape, collar, wristlets, and boot covers (i ended up not using). The cosplay was paired with my default Miku wig, Alois stocking, boots, ice blue contacts, and accessories we hand made.
-Getting ready |
After purchasing and waiting to receive the cosplay, we had to continue to wait close to a year for the weather to permit the perfect amount of snow for the photoshoot.
It was so much fun making the accessories while Alex sewn the plush leeks back together.
The blue wand made from an old happy birthday yard sign stick, purple ribbon, pipe cleaners and a large golden christmas ornament from my mother’s matching set on our Christmas tree.
The hair clips were also made from pipe cleaners and purple ribbon. I did a little experimenting with doing my makeup on my own for this shoot and Alex also painted my nails.
-Shoot Time! |
We decided on a familiar park location nearby, where we also have taken previous cosplay photos for Alois, Ed, Yang, ect. The snow accumulated up to 9 inches that week and it was freezing cold, we would only stay out shooting for maybe 20 minutes at a time before seeking shelter in the warm car and repeating the cycle. We recruited an additional assistant/ prop holder Alex Howl, who helped with my cape adjustments while I was struggling to keep the hat on.
This shoot I learned about natural lighting and working around not having any seated poses due to snowy surroundings/ making sure not to dirty or mess up the white cosplay and cape.
-Editing |
The main point we focused on was lightening my complexion. I was wanting a fair skin tone to better compliment the light colors of the cosplay, so Alex worked a little magic on Lightroom Classic. The other main focus was to photoshop footprint removal and replacing with cloned snowy areas.
In the end we did a lot of learning. We plan on recruiting additional lighting for future outdoor shoots and different color miku wig to better suit the Magical Girl Snow cosplay.
