🎬 Coconutdaddy’s Movie Take: Analyze That — A Sequel That Surprisingly Does a Few Things Better

Sequels usually trip over themselves trying to copy the first movie beat for beat, joke for joke, plot for plot. I’ll give Analyze That credit right away — it doesn’t do that. Instead of repeating the “gangster in therapy” routine, this one shifts gears and focuses more on revenge, survival, and the fallout of trying to kill De Niro’s character. It’s a different angle, and honestly, it works better than expected.

Lisa Kudrow? Still charming. Always charming. She’s the bright spot in both films.

De Niro, though… he’s not the same funny De Niro we get in Dirty Grandpa getting flirted on by Aubrey Plaza. Here, the movie leans way too hard on the idea that we’re supposed to laugh every time he drops an F‑bomb. It’s like the script thinks profanity equals comedy, and that’s never a great sign.

But the ending? I’ll give it this — the action hits. The finale has energy, movement, and a sense of payoff that the first movie never really delivered. And Billy Crystal’s grieving storyline about his father adds a layer of sincerity that actually feels earned. It’s one of the few emotional beats in the franchise that lands without feeling forced.

Do I love the movie? No. But I liked it better than the first. It’s still messy, still uneven, still unsure of what tone it wants to commit to… but at least it tries something new instead of photocopying its predecessor.

I watched it again. I’ll forget it again. It is what it is.
