Birdwatchers From the US Flock to Kentucky For Rare Goose
A birdwatcher’s paradise, the Pink-footed Goose is a rare sighting in the United States. The bird is more typically found in Iceland, Greenland, and Europe.
This winter, though, the bird made a stop in Kentucky at the Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area. The bird was first spotted by a local birder and then reported to the Kentucky Ornithological Society.
Since then, birders from all over the country have made the pilgrimage to see the rare goose. The bird has brought both excitement and tourism dollars to the small town of Golden Pond.
But the Pink-footed Goose is not without detractors. Some worry that the bird will disturb the delicate balance of the local ecosystem. Others believe that the bird is a sign of a changing climate and the troubles that come with it.
What do you think about the Pink-footed Goose?
