🕯️🎬 Joe Don Baker: The Reluctant MST3K Legend We’ll Never Forget 🚗💥

Well folks, we’ve lost a real one. Joe Don Baker, the gruff, gravel-voiced action staple of the ‘70s and ‘80s—and, whether he liked it or not, a beloved member of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 family—has passed away. 😢

Now, if you know Joe Don from Walking Tall, Mitchell, or even his James Bond supporting roles, congrats—you probably still own a VCR. 📼 But for a certain generation, Joe Don Baker will forever be remembered through the glorious, snark-filled lens of MST3K. You know, the show that dared to ask, “What if we mocked B-movies so hard they looped around to being brilliant?” 😏🎥

Let’s talk Mitchell—that glorious, grease-stained mess of a movie. If it weren’t for Joel, the Bots, and a few well-timed donut jokes, Mitchell might’ve rotted away in a dusty dollar bin somewhere. Instead, it became a cult classic. And let’s not forget Final Justice, where Joe Don’s Texan lawman rampaged through Malta like a hungover tourist in a spaghetti western. 🇺🇸🕵️‍♂️🍝

To be fair, Joe Don was not exactly thrilled about being MST3K’s punching bag. Word on the street is, he wasn’t amused. Not even a polite chuckle. But hey, that’s just part of the charm. Because even when he wasn’t in on the joke, he was the joke, and that made him a legend to thousands of fans who couldn’t get enough of his grumbly one-liners and slow-motion car chases. 🚔🔥

And here’s the thing—MSTies (that’s Mystery Science Theater superfans, for the uninitiated) didn’t mock Joe Don out of malice. It was pure, absurdist affection. He was our patron saint of punchy police drama, a man whose very walk inspired musical numbers, and whose squint could launch a thousand riffs. 👮‍♂️🎶😎

So here’s to Joe Don Baker: the man, the myth, the Mitchell. You may not have appreciated the MST3K treatment, but rest assured—you’re part of the family. Always were. Always will be. 🖤

We’ll miss the boots, the glare, the perfectly awkward fight scenes, and most of all—the unintentionally perfect performances that made you immortal in the halls of late-night cable TV.

You may have walked tall, Joe Don—but you riffed even taller. 🙏
