🎬 To Supergirl or Not to Supergirl — That Is the Question (I Guess)

A Coconutdaddy Pop‑Culture Rant for the Ages

Alright, let’s just rip the Band‑Aid off: I’m probably not going to see the new Supergirl movie.

And before the internet warriors start sharpening their hashtags — No, I do not hate women. I like action movies. I like superhero movies. I even like some of the modern cape‑and‑cowl circus. But once you open that door, the superhero crowd wants you to support all of them or none of them. It’s like joining a fandom cult. You’re either all‑in or you’re a heretic.

Well, Coconutdaddy is a proud heretic.

Because here’s the truth: I love Batman. I will mostly go to Batman films, watch Batman shows, and read Batman stories. I find the character interesting — dark, flawed, obsessive, stylish, dramatic, and always one bad day away from becoming the villain. That’s my lane.

Supergirl? I don’t care.

Not in a mean way. Not in a “cancel her” way. Just in a “she doesn’t do anything for me” way.

Let’s be honest: the whole reason we even have Supergirl is because Shazam came along with his giant family of powered siblings and suddenly DC said, “Well, Superman needs a family too!” So they gave him one. And Supergirl was part of that “keeping up with the Joneses” moment.

She was so uninteresting in the comics that DC literally killed her off in Crisis on Infinite Earths. That’s not me being harsh — that’s history.

Now, fast‑forward to today. We’ve got a new Supergirl movie. And I’ll admit: the concept is interesting. A darker, grittier take. A Supergirl who’s been through trauma. A Supergirl who isn’t sunshine and rainbows. That’s cool.

But here’s the problem: You need a likable or at least interesting character to make that work. And right now? No one cares about Supergirl.

And before someone says, “Well, no one cared about Iron Man either!” — you’re right. But no one cared if you liked or hated Iron Man. There was no political debate attached. No moral test. No “support this or you’re anti‑something.”

Now? Everything is a referendum. Everything is a debate. Everything is a loyalty test.

So here we are: Do you Supergirl, or do you not Supergirl? That’s the question.

And Coconutdaddy’s answer is simple: I don’t Supergirl. But I don’t hate her either. I just don’t care.

Give me Batman. Give me Gotham. Give me a brooding billionaire punching clowns in alleys. That’s cinema.

Supergirl can fly. I’ll stay grounded.
